Speaking to GMA Integrated News’ Unang Balita on Wednesday, Remulla clarified he was not downplaying the struggles of Filipinos but merely wanted to lighten the atmosphere amid gloomy conditions caused by the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

“Siguro hindi nila ako naiintindihan. Pabiro talaga ako. Hindi ko naman minamaliit ang pinaghihirapan nila. Ang ginagawa ko lang, ang pagpapaalala ay ginawa kong mas magaan para hindi negative vibes lagi ang naririnig,” he said.

He added:

“Kung 'di naman nila naiintindihan ay humihingi ako ng pasensiya. Pero ganoon talaga pagkatao ko. Ano na lang, intindihin na lang ito na wala naman akong masamang intensiyon.”

On Tuesday, July 22, DILG’s Facebook page posted:

“Mga abangers, may inaabangan ba kayo? Mamaya na kain muna ko.”

Later, another post read:

“Mga abangers, sarap ng bogchi ko. Sa kabusugan ay nakaidlip nang sandali. Oh eto na inaabangan niyo!”

These posts, referring to class and work suspension announcements, drew mostly angry reactions from netizens who found them insensitive amid flooding and heavy rainfall affecting many Filipinos.

As of writing, public opinion remains divided, with some defending Remulla’s humor while others emphasize the importance of professionalism in announcements, especially during emergencies.
